Silves Medieval Fair
Step into the past at the Silves Medieval Fair (Feira Medieval de Silves) hosted in the historical Silves castle, once the capital of the Algarve. This festival, dating back to 2004, has evolved into one of the region’s major events, seamlessly blending entertainment with historical richness.

Celebrated throughout August, the festival spans over a week, with daily festivities from 18:00 to 01:00. Dates vary annually; for 2022, anticipate activities from August 9-18, mirroring previous years.

What to expect
Transport yourself to a bygone era as participants don medieval attire and engage in horse tournaments and medieval battle re-enactments.
The festivities include entertainment, music, dancers, and surprises like snake charmers, acrobats, and jugglers. Explore the medieval market, savoring centuries-old local specialties. Additionally, indulge in a unique dining experience with a royal banquet, featuring an Arab-influenced medieval meal.
Discover an array of goods from merchants and craftsmen, predominantly influenced by Arab culture. From handmade bags and knives to nuts and dried fruits, the event utilizes a local currency, the Xilb, for transactions. In 2018, the fair attracted over 138,000 attendees.
What is the entrance fee?
Gain entry for a nominal fee of € 2 (without a mug) or € 3 (with a mug). For an enhanced experience, attend the royal banquet for € 25. Costume rentals are available at € 2 for children and € 3 for adults.
